    Walk with Me in Hell

    07/01/2008 | Epic

    All Music Guide Review

Metal goliaths Lamb of God are no strangers to the DVD format, as they've issued almost as many DVD's as albums by this point, with the 2008 release, Walk with Me in Hell,' being their third DVD (compared to five albums, for the unenlightened). Unlike their previous two DVD's, Walk with Me in Hell' is not a straight-ahead live document of Lamb of God. Instead, it is a documentary of their massive tour in support of their breakthrough album, 2006's Sacrament. If it's a wild sex, drugs, and rock n' roll' documentary you're looking for, you've come to the wrong place, as the Lamb of God chaps are very well behaved, mild mannered young men. But there's plenty of behind-the-scenes footage and direct views into what makes the band tick, as cameras follow the group's every move throughout the aforementioned tour. A few standout bits include singer Randy Blythe's big toe coming in dangerous contact with a hunting knife (and the grisly aftermath), a visit to the ESP guitar factory in Japan, tattoo artistry via renowned tattoo guy Paul Booth, and even the band playing Family Feud' during an otherwise uneventful (according to the band) Euro tour opening for Heaven and Hell. Additionally, fans can play a fun game while watching the documentary - charting the growth progress of Blythe's hair. And while you only get clips of live performances during the documentary, don't fret -- there's plenty of full-length live performances in another section of the DVD, including "Redneck" (from Unholy Alliance U.S.), "Blacken the Cursed Sun" (from Ozzfest), and "Pathetic" (from the group's first-ever arena headliner tour), among others. Also, it turns out the second disc is certainly not a throw away, as it includes a Making of Sacrament'' featurette, eight pro-shot live performances from the Download Festival, and the making of the "Redneck" video (as well as the actual video itself). Walk with Me in Hell' will certainly satisfy the viewing needs of diehard Lamb of God fanatics. ~ Greg Prato, All Music Guide
