Nicolas Cage is a "Bad Lieutenant"

    Thu, 15 May 2008 10:25:06

    To star in remake

Nicolas Cage will topline the remake of Bad Lieutenant. The dark, dastardly original earned a then-taboo NC-17 rating when it was released back in 1992, due to containing lascivious material about a corrupt, despicable NYC cop, then portrayed by Harvey Keitel, who is involved in drugs, sex, stealing, and other assorted criminal mischief. The film's most controversial scene involves Keitel's character demanding sexual favors from two underage girls in exchange for letting them go after catching them driving without licenses.

The updated version of the film will be retain the same title and will be directed by Werner Herzog, who achieved recent acclaim for his documentary Grizzly Man, about a man who went to live amongst Alaskan grizzly bears. No other significant plot details or possible plot changes have been revealed at this time.

The film will begin production in late summer.
